Although bare-root trees and shrubs can be cheaper to buy for your landscaping as their is no soil attached to the roots, there are some potential problems with them. For instance, bare-root plants can only be dug, shipped and transplanted where you wish in your landscaping when the plant is dormant. You weather conditions at these times, when the plant is dormant, may make getting outside and digging a bit of a pain. Many rose shrubs are shipped this way, so be sure if you purchase such, to get it into the ground quickly while still dormant.
Don’t consider purchasing evergreens for your landscaping that have been bare-rooted. The needles are leaves that continue to lose water that is not being taken up by the roots once the soil is removed.
